Pfc. Charles Townsend served with the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, India Co. He was Killed In Action during Operation AUBURN. His name stands proudly on the India 3/5 Wall of Honor. Semper fidelis, Brother Marine. We will never forget.

I saw the name Townsend among your Memorials and when I clicked on it you had a picture (above) of Townsend with three other Marines. The guy in the forefront of that picture is Me. I was a few feet away from Townsend when he got shot Charlie had just opened up on us and we were all running toward a paddy about a couple of hundred feet in front of us. Myself and a Corpsman helped him and then I went on up to the paddy where eveyone was at and began helping to lay down suppressing fire to stop the bullets that Charlie was throwing at us. I thought Townsend had lived. I am sorry to hear that he died.

The people of India Co. 3/5 would like to place our crest on this fine Marine.
You will not be forgotten our friend. Semper Fi, Charles.~
