John K. Tooke served with the 1st Marine Division, 2nd
Battalion, 5th Marines, Golf Co. He was Killed In Action Nov. 6,
1967 during Operation ESSEX, a terrible battle that cost the lives
of many 2nd and 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines and Corpsmen. Semper
fi, Brother Marine. We will never forget.

was 7 years older than me, but we lived in the same small Louisiana
town of Arcadia. At the time John died, my family had moved to another
town in south Arkansas. It had been a few years since I'd
seen John or any of his family. I went with my minister father
on the death call right after notification was given. Johns'
father was a Methodist minister there in Arcadia and my father was
a Baptist one. I've never forgotten.~Brad
