3/5 from 08/21/68 to 05/01/69. Third P
latoon rifleman, to fire team leader, to squad leader, to platoon
guide and acting platoon sergeant. SSgt. Blackman was my platoon sergeant,
or acting platoon commander.
Instructor at Regimental schools at An Hoa from May '68 through
August '68, retrained 5th Regiment companies that had excessive casualties
from mistakes.
I
taught mine and booby trap avoidance, ambush response, calling in supporting
arms and medevac. AFP (Armed Forces Police) platoon sergeant in DaNang
September and October 1969.
HAT
(Hamlet Advisory Team) Leader November 1969 to June 1970. Had 36 South
Vietnamese civilians and 7 Marines. Similar to a CAP unit. Local security
for the ville, training, and 2 to 6 man "Hunter-Killer" teams
(50% Viet, 50% Marine) to harrass enemy troop movements on an infiltration
route. POW compound sergeant-of-the-guard July and August of 1970."~Mike
